Def XS like stated. I think it will fit you quite nicely. Even if it's a bit too wide, just go get the shirt taken in.

I'm 5'10'', 155 lbs, 30 waist and I tried on an XS for kicks. The width fits nicely, but the sleeves are too short for me. I have to go with a S and go get the width and sleeves taken in with J. Crew.

I'll offer a dissenting opinion and say S. I've got a 37 chest, and I found XS too tight. I didn't try the chambray, I tried another utility shirt. I could button the XS, but it was too tight in chest. It looked weird and was uncomfortable. I returned that and got the S version. It's loose, but can be taken in.

Alternately, you can look at Lands End Canvas. Their small is between J Crew's XS and S. You can usually find a free shipping coupon too.

yeah this is my experience too. i'm 5'8 and have a 31/32 waist, the xs does not fit me in the shoulders, however the xs in the flannels do.

I don't understand how you guys can wear these XS clothes. I'm 5'9 and 140lbs and it fits so tight on me.

Since we're talking about XS shirts... at 5'2", 125lbs I'm pretty sure the XS will be too big for me. That said, if I really wanted to, would it even be worth it to have a JC XS taken in/hemmed or will it just be all thrown off?

The only XS item I own is the flannel shirt from last year and it looks tailored on me. Every other XS I've tried is so tight around the shoulder/chest.

Really? I'm about the same height as you, well only an inch taller, albeit 15 lbs heavier than you are. The width of an XS in J. Crew is almost perfect. It's slim so that when I tuck in the shirt, I get no ballooning effect.

In a small from J. Crew in any shirt, regardless of the cut, I'm usually drowning in it. But the length sleeve and width of the collar are on point.
