'86 Gruaud tonight, Gomey. Open but not yet tasted.

Also a 2000 Mumm rose and some 1er Cru Chablis I can't remember. I will check the vinyard if you are interested. It's not that old though.

god damn it, must you drink all of the 1986 vintages without me? A second growth to boot. My last (and only) '86 Bordeaux was La Mission a few months ago. I hope your experience is as good.

And I am interested in the Chablis vineyard and your impressions of it.

I have a whole case of this (well, somewhat less now) plus one in NY so maybe I will invite you up for it. I also have some '86 Mondavi there.

All the '86 Lynch Bages is here, though, as is the Las Cases and the Lafite (one bottle).

if I am worthy enough of a guest, then perhaps I will help you drink them. I'll provide the Champs. Or the Didier if you prefer.

Let's do it. Something absurd and tiring, and then make the women clean up.

EDIT: Jesus, this post is an edmorel magnet.

NICE. Your reflections on the Dom when awake would be splendid.

It had been a long time since I had Dom. Brought back many memories of my father's significant stash of aged Dom, all of which was drunk up long ago.

This was quite youthful give its age (14 years), which seems old for a champagne but Dom from a great vintage is capable of holding for decades. It had lost very little of its bubble. The color was still quite light, not the deep gold that Dom gets when it's really old. All the sharpness was gone. I recognized instantly that mellow nuttiness but only hints of it. Lots of different fruits, apricot being dominant. I think the flavors had not fully developed.

I would say this was wine in a transitional stage. The harsher aspects of youth were shed but the glories of maturity had not yet come to the fore. Not to say that it was bad or even mediocre. It was spectacular. I think it would have taken another ten years and maybe longer to pull out everything it had to show.

Beautiful. I've had the '95 and '00, but not the '96. I hope to give it a shot in a few years after its transition is over.

Yesterday... '81 Soldera Brunello. Wow. Hefty notes of woodsiness, concentrated dried citrus and dark fruits. Color very brick-ish... too bad I had but a glass.

2007 Hallopière Vin de Pays du Val de Loire. I hope, Gomey, you are taking note of a recent up tick in Euro offerings that I'm drinking.
