For our friends considering the Sommelier courses, a nice podcast you may enjoy. Gilles de Chambure of Meadowood Resort in Napa Valley, shares his ideas with Nancy Hawks Miller, Goosecross' Director of Education.

This was my birth year and I have had this wine several times. The first bottle ranks with the top five wines I've ever had, just beautiful, youthful, complex.....a joy to drink. The others were inconsistent, as you'd expect with a 40+ year old wine. Interestingly, the first bottle, when I removed the cork, I swear, I could have just turned the bottle upside down and the cork would have just fallen out, it came out that easily. I was nervous, but it turned out to be mind blowing.

Was at a little cafe yesterday that was serving some white they called "grape wine." WTF? Isn't it all "grape wine"? No varietal was named. The barista could not explain. I had tea.

me and a few friends went to the bar at Tocqueville last night. Great stuff all around.

Food included grits packed with truffles, foie two ways, oysters, mushroom risotto, yellowtail crudo and tartare, an uni carbonara with angel hair (we ordered 2 of these), and a bunch of other little things from the chef.

Sweets were 5 types of ice cream (caramel, vanilla, sweet corn, pistachio, and chocolate), the chocolate tasting plate, the greenmarket strawberries, and a selection of cheeses.

For the wine we killed two bottles of Champagne: Demilly De Baer Cuvee Carte D'or, NV.

Even better, they showed me the bottle and it said "grape wine." That's all.
