+1 for Alpha Centauri...also like Star Wars: Empire at War even though it's less detailed...

In retrospect, I should have played the turn based Civ games instead of the RTS games like Age of Kings.

It was a big let down when I got online to play only to be rushed within 7 minutes of the game. Rush to Castle Age, erect a town center next to your enemy's closest gold pile. Garrison your villagers. Congrats, you just won the match.

Pretty much. I find as I get older and less focused, it's a lot easier to play turn-based games while doing something else.

I thought nerds used to hide for fear of getting beat down, not celebrate their nerdiness

Much cooler to have a text message relationship with a 24 year old virgin whom your wife thinks is your gay lover.

That one was awesome. Sadly, I only played the original Civ, then COLONIZATION, then I moved on to Starcraft and the Age of .... games and never really got into it again after that. I'm excited for SC2. I think a few years ago I bought Civ 3, and it was so different from what I was used to and what I liked that I never played it.

Colonization was amazing, i actually tracked down a version that ran with windows a couple of years ago and still played it.

I played Civ 1&2 religiously

Then moved on to Command and Conquer as well as Starcraft, I don't play games as much these days though.

i used to play board games when i was a kid. i never played computer games until a friend gave me a copy of Civ II. What an amazing time-suck. i'd disappear for like 4-5 hours. I tried the other spinoffs, alpha centauri, etc., but just wasn't my thing. i do want to try colonization, though. i bought civ3 and civ4 but while there were things i liked about civ4, it was just too different from the others for me to really adapt well (i'm old and change reluctantly). civ3 was probably my favorite version, but nowadays i only feel like playing a couple of times a year .

I've played the beta, and I wasn't impressed. But I've already purchased it, so I hope to change my mind come Tues.

This game is awful. Such a disappointment. By any standards, much less Civ standards, it's a giant festering pile of crap.
