Slim fit suit in SF

Hi,

Just discovered this site and though I'd ask.

Where is a good place to get a slim fiitted suit in SF?
I'm about 5'8" and around 148 pounds. I'm in between 36-38 depending on the cut, but nothing I've tried on seems to fit right.
I still have yet to find a suit that fits and if I'm going to spend 2k+, I figure I'd get a bespoke suit (though I don't know how much those go for in the SF area or if I'm better off doing it in NY while on work).
I'm also having a really hard time finding shirts as well - any suggestions?

Has anyone found such a place yet?

Here are some ideas:
Brooks Brothers: Fitzgerald or Black Fleece models
Ralph Lauren: Black Label
Barneys or Saks: not sure about brands, but look around and try stuff

There is no real bespoke in San Francisco, just visiting tailors.
Anything decent will run over $2000. A number of stores do
MTM. For RTW and some MTM you might wish to check out
The Hound on Sutter, although they may be too "trad" for
you. As for slim fit, I will defer to our friend Parker, since
I haven't been slim since I was about six years old.

Then I and many forum members will be eternally grateful if you would share
you secret about Bay Area bespoke for under $2000.

I was referring to your comment about visiting tailors, which I quoted. I think one can get better than "decent" results from some of the tailors who visit SF for less than $2k.

Get some ready to wear Corneliani CC for 3 times less.

For a suit? Who?
I might be interested.

SF is really that bad for finding a good suit! Man, that's a bit depressing.

Is there a good tailor in the city that can take a meh RTW to a properly fitted suit (meh within reason of course).

I've also had no luck in finding dress shirts that do not look like capes. Any good MTM shirt makers in the city? And yes, The Hound does look a bit too trad for my tastes.

Just not that big a demand for suits out here. Those that wear them are probably happy with the more traditional things they get from Brooks Bros, or the department stores. More fashion-conscious folks would probably go the Paul Smith or something like that. You might want to try a tailor named Esmail Astanboos. He makes very nice shirts, and also supposedly has a long history tailoring suits. However, I cannot vouch for the suits, and do not know about his prices. Otherwise, I would look into MTM at some of the places already mentioned. Probably be hard to do MTM for less than $2K at Wilkes Bashford. They are, however, offering a much slimmer set of available suits under the new regime of the Mitchell family. As already mentioned, I would look into some of the travelling Hong Kong tailors such as Chan or MyTailor.com. You'll probably be happier and can get something good for less than $2K.

I have a great alterations tailor in Menlo Park. He does "special jobs" for the Palo Alto
Wilkes. He's done some very challenging work for me, as in shoulder re-doing, with
success.

Especially Kasper Gutman in a morning coat and spats.
