I am also considering a Hartmann briefcase like this one on eBay

Here is another photo

I remember seeing something like this on the forum and I have the impression that it is quite a common model. Is the exterior of this model made from belting leather? I am confused since I saw in another similar auction that the seller claims that exterior is vinyl.

How much was a briefcase or a 26" luggage in this style sold for? How do you rank the quality of this particular style of Hartmann with similar cases from other US and English makers?

Thanks!

^ they made those in leather & vinyl. some all leather; some leather ext., vinyl int.; some all vinyl. with practice you can tell them apart in pictures.

That is really interesting. So were the vinyl ones much cheaper?

According to this website, the leather version of
HartmannBrief1.jpg

retails at $800. Is it the right retail price?

If I'm not mistaken, that's a J. Crew item. It retails for $800, but obviously few people will pay that price for a mailbag no matter how good-looking... so you can usually find one on eBay for around $500. Run a search for J. Crew mailbag or messenger bag, and something should turn up.

Very good quality, not too expensive but extremely dull...
