Rochas Man. I wish New Harlem didn't smell better than this. Oh well.
Hmmm, I've got to get me some of that to try. BN reviews seem to indicate Rochas is really almost as good an a far lower price, but is it just a poor substitute?

I haven't smelled Rochas Man, but I have a bottle of Body Kouros and I'm slowly accepting that I don't like it as much as New Haarlem, of which I just have a tiny decant. As much as I like New Haarlem, I'm not sure if I'd buy a bottle at full price. If I started down that route, I think I'd buy several other bottles first - Vetiver Extraordinaire, Sarasins, Mitsouko Parfum, Apres L'Ondee.

^Try Montale Aoud Queen Roses. Wow, what a rose. TDC Rose Poivree is also neat, though very different from what you usually expect from a rose scent.

Kenzo Tokyo for me today. Found a bottle for the equivalent of $7 and thought I would give it a try. Not a bad woody/mild citrus/incense-ish scent, though longevity is really quite poor (looking over some various reviews, others have noted this problem as well.)

It tries to be in the same league with CDG Incense series (especially Kyoto and the like), but lacks the punch, the uniqueness, the quality, the longevity, and the quirk.

Again, though, it is NOT a bad scent, especially if you come across a cheap bottle. For $7, I like it a lot, and the Kyoto CDG runs $65-70 for 50mls, which is more than I want to spend on an incense scent.

Terre de Hermes today. Dry cedar/vetiver. Similar to Encre Noir IMO.

PS I might buy a 1.7 oz of New Harlem for $99. Considering I only have 3 actual bottles now the price isn't that outrageous.

Have you tried it before? Just asking because it is a neat scent, but not terribly flexible or usable all that often. It layers VERY well with others, but is quite a heavy gourmand and so in various types of weather, or with varying types of activities, can be a real stinker (in a bad way!)

I had a bottle but found myself using so infrequently that I traded it off for something else. If you have tried it and love it, then go for it, but if it would be a blind buy... keep in mind $99 is NOT really that great a bargain for a 50 ml scent, whether Bond or not.

Basenotes was more fun when I joined, but I disliked the massive pro-Creed bias. Perfumeoflife was I think a bit more fun as well a few years back, but it's awfully woman-centric and they've run off some of the more interesting people in favor of a code of pleasantness and harmony.

In terms of the big houses, my preference runs towards Caron.

I've gone through 3 samples. I like the smokiness in it. I dunno I really like gourmands but now I'm way more picky. I've tried all of the major ones and found flaws in all of them. I'm looking for one that doesn't smell too much like baby powder or an A*Men iteration. I can see where I wouldn't wear it too often, 1.7 oz is probably way too much juice.

This makes sense. I just think that 1) if you have a small collection, then New Haarlem isn`t maybe the best choice. As well, $99 for 50mls of Bond is not a good price at all. If you absolutely LOVED it, that is one thing, but I think there are so many other more versatile ones out there for that money.

BUT, of course, get what you like!!!!! Just my opinion, having had it and about 10 other Bonds over the past several years. It was probably the least versatile, most rarely worn, and *heaviest* Bond I had.

That being said, there are those who love it and stand by it. Trust your nose!

Hi all, I need some advise about TSA approved size for cologne bottles. I will be flying in a few days and it occurred to me that they don't allow 100ml bottles in carry on baggage.
Good that I realized it now instead of having a bottle thrown out at the airport
Are those sample sized bottles(the ones commonly seen in department stores, etc) okay to carry?
BTW - today I am wearing au sauvage again. My "honeymoon phase" with this fragrance seems to be just about over but I still love it! It's a keeper.
