The nose is a little bit like watered down respectable beer. Like.... take a decent beer and dilute it in 5 parts water to one part good beer, and then let it sit in the sun for a few days. Then refrigerate it until cold so all flavor is gone and it is thusly easily consumed alcohol, which, HEY, just happens to be wha tI need right meow.

Soave tends to have slightly more body than acidity compared to things like a steely Sancerre, though I have had one or two that came off as flabby.Originally Posted by gomestar
Soave doesn't travel well. It needs to be cellared for a while before drinking. Its a little like the white wines from the Haute Savoie in this respect.

2008 Karl Pfaffmann Chardonnay Kabinett trocken (Germany, Pfalz)
Edit: A quick tasting note. Zero oak, minerals present, nice acid, lots of ripe peach on the palate. Went well with the pesto shrimp and at $15, a nice QPR. Would have really liked if it had just a kiss of oak. I'm not a "zero oak" fan...almost as much as I'm not an oak monster fan.

An excellent $24 wine. Has the tenets of a much more expensive Napa Cab. Highly recommended.

A tempranillo last night: Dominio de Atauta Ribera del Duero 2005
As tempranillos go, this one is very "old world" in style with plenty of prune, dried raisin, dried dark cherry on the nose and palate. I'd guess it likely coems from old vines. Pretty strongly tannic, acid on the higher side and fairly pronounce alcohol. Strong minerality... long finish.
