OK, I'm ready...a snapshot from July 2006 as the Azzurri converted the last spot kick against France...I'm on the far left draped in the Red White and Green next to the fat guy wearining #2.

One great thing about being an American is that there's always two teams to root for (I guess same can be said of Canadian, Australian, and NZ)

If someone offered you a bet on the champion and gave you the choice of taking (1) a first-time winner or (2) a prior winner, which would you take and why?

Prior

All teams with realistic chances have at least one title, big exception beeing Spain.

it depends on the specific teams. holland and spain have more of a chance than italy, uruguay, and germany.

This hypothetical bet doesn't require you to pick a specific winner. If you choose "first-time winner," you win the bet if any first-time winner wins the Cup.

Spain is the odds-on favorite, right? Spain + Netherlands + Portugal might be enough to make it a close to even bet.

the 2 best teams in the world, far above everyone else right now, are brazil and spain. the thing to note is that spain is always one of the favorites, yet they always choke. this is a new generation though, so... the other thing is that in futbol the best team does not always win, so it would not surprise me much if both brazil and spain lose in the quarters or semis. they are still the 2 best teams though. forget portugal. they had their golden generation the last two world cups and couldn't win it. they're not as good this time. edit: i have a feeling holland is going to win. i don't know why. don't the white south africans speak dutch? home-field advantage?

I just can't get past Spain's roster. It's just ridiculously good.
