The most generic/unstylish/invisible outfit a man can have? (khakis+polo shirt?)

Not looking for "bad", but just 100% generic and anonymous. Invisible.

The epitome of business casual?
Pleated khakis + Polo shirt + white sneakers?

Yup .. nothing screams generic like the proto-typical retail uniform.

Jeans and a graphic t-shirt seem to be all the rage lately.

Yet, I still see guys who actually make a pair of great fitting khakis and polo look cool and stylish. Fit and how you wear it.

My wife complains about the guys who wear generic gray pants, thick rubber soled shoes with beatup leather tops, and ill-fitting blue OCBD and blue blazer with brass buttons (extra neg for missing one). She thinks it adds 10 years of age to a guy and looks sad.

GetSmart, Jason of Thick as Thieves, looked pretty good in his polos and khakis. He's also the only guy I ever saw that made a jean jacket look good.

I think the point of the thread was "generic".

I agree, the outfit is all in how it is worn. I personally find the polo to be extraordinarily boring.

I think if the chinos have pleats in them and they're the typical khaki color and the polo is tucked in with a brown leather belt, then yes. Bonus points if overweight and the polo is still a size too large.

I would also add Sketcher shoes or something similar on the feet should also garner bonus points.

If done right khakis and a polo can look nice.

I'd go with jeans and a graphic tee.

- Too many people wear blazer over untucked shirts and jeans. Unfortunately, 9 out of 10 times, the shirts should not be worn untucked

- Denim or polo shirts with company logo and khaki. An outfit pioneered by employees at hi tech companies from around San Jose, California

- Shorts that are way below the knee

I think dress pants are a BIG step above khakis, in terms of the generic "Home Depot Dad" look

In the office, this is the winner. I was in a room recently, and 6 of 7 men were dressed like this. It was incredible to behold. On the weekend, I think it's the Khaki shorts & Polo short sleeve. The question remains, which color Polo shirt is the "winner"?
