I did it for a month or two. It gets easier, but it still sucks.

At least you practice cold calling abilities, pretty useful.

I've had some of the best weeks of my life when I did sales. One summer, around Grade 12 or 13, I was a canvasser for an old school "tin man." I would walk around, knocking on doors, and set up an appointment or two to bring in the "closer" who would sell folks home improvements. Everything from sophet and fascia to replacement windows to vinyl siding to additions, etc. If you had written a nice deal or two and had some appointments set up, most of the day would be spent at the horse track, etc. I made a butt load of money for what was a summer job.

I love sales with a passion. There is something brilliant about taking money from someone, for something they don't need and them still thanking you for the pleasure.

I started out in telemarketing in school, then moved to Fine Art during a gap year and now I'm working as a salesman for a high-street retailer.

Once you can sell over the phone, you can sell anything. Once I realised I could do it my life turned around. You can ask any girl you meet out for a drink, you can wrap any sales clerk around you little finger and talk your way out of almost any trouble.

Learning to talk to people in a way that makes them want to give you their life savings is possibly the best skill a man can have.

Keep plugging away at your Telesales job, its bloody hard work, but once you've learned the skill, the world should be your oyster.

+1

I have been selling pretty much all of my adult life. it is a great way to make a living, if you can do it. as people have said - even if you don't do it for a living, it teaches you a great deal about life.

I sell stuff that starts at about 100K. I have had purchase orders for 30 mil (or a single purchase order for 30 mil). there is nothing like the feeling of getting that order.

statistically speaking, short men make significantly less than tall men. I am 5 5. I studied philosophy in university and don't actually have my certificate, but I made more than 97% of the US tax payers last year, because I know how to sell, and when somebody tells me to piss off, I get up the next day and keep going.
