Not really. This is the time in your life when "write a book" makes sense. I've just finished two novels and I don't even speak English that fluently. There are many ways to make friends. For example, I started going to local religious services. Jews have all kind of events on Saturday and Christians offer free bagel and cofee on Sunday. On the weekdays, you can join a local shooting range to pass time after work. It's usually a bunch of very easy going guys out shooting $hit. Also, many martial art studios are offering very low rate for beginners. Take up Muay Thai or Tae Kwon Do if you're that out of shape. Also, if you make extra money, there's also the casinos and gentlemen's clubs. If you're dedicated, take up a hobby like RC, birdwatching, or ice skating. You're single, employed, how can life be boring? People have it much worse in my native land. There's nothing to do except the bloodsport of cricket fighting.

Move to a little studio downtown where all the action is.
Take up golf, you'll always have people to play golf with and drink with.
Build something with your hands.
Online dating.
2nd job as a bartender, waiter, give lessons etc...
Volunteer with a religious organization, charity, environmental group, youth group, school, etc.

I guess man...

This reminds me..one time I was working through the library of my university and saw a student on eHarmony (while tons of attractive girls surround him). Sad site to see. Once again, you don't want to be this guy.

I feel you, man. I suggest you allocate at least 4 hours a week to getting out there:

1) Classes: language, cooking, art or professional courses
2) Meetup.com - better yet, start your own meetup group - lots of examples of sucessful ones in big cities
3) Take someone under your wing - you're in audit, right? Lotsa young kids in the firm - just round em up and bring em out
4) Volunteer: toastmasters, big brothers, local museum, cultural events, habitat for humanity, esl conversation groups
5) Sports: YMCA, ultimate, etc.

IMO...it wasn't better in university for me - I had no ca$h, no time and was dying from the uncertainty of whatever the hell was going to happen after I graduated.

You'll adjust. It's just as well that childhood friends have scattered. Time to make new friends based on real interests. You have been given great ideas here. However, if YOU'RE the boring one, you'll have a hard time making new friends, or finding women to date.

Point 5. ultimate = ultimate frisbee??? Does anyone actually do that after getting out of college?
And there should be plenty of social activities, informal or formal, if you're in a accounting firm. From what I see, people at the junior levels seem awfully tight.

This is why people go back to school to get MBAs and JDs.

I just get drunk and learn **** on my own. I've been cooking a lot, make furniture, might start making knives too. I dunno, I find doing **** myself and learning rewarding.

I agree, learning things and doing new things is a very gratifying experience. All you have to do is tell yourself that you can and will do whatever you want to do. The less of a problem you make something, the easier it will be. A lot of people don't get this simple concept.

Just these past few weeks I've:

Gone on my longest hike, took some good pics.
Shot a .45 handgun at a range
Gone swimming and sunbathing at a local nude beach
Stayed up until 2am filming a video project for school
Started working out again, eating better
Sat on the patio for an hour reading a funny book on a beautiful day
Had some good dinners with the folks
Went out to lunch with a friend
Made tentative plans to skydive, paintball, etc over summer

It's nothing earthshattering, but I'm much happier after doing it all. I feel like I'm learning and experiencing new things, outside of my comfort zone.

Hi Longskate,

what part of SD did you hike? I want to do some hiking in SD, and I am curious what trails did you hike at?

Thanks
