Ok people, My brothers want to buy topman suits for prom. I need help convincing them otehrwise, or if not, reasons why this decision isnt marsupialed.

Cons: mostly plastic, with horrible cut and a style that will be out of date in less than 10 months.
Pros: Cheap (though not as cheap as T M Lewin, Moss Bros or Suits You) and good for very skinny kids who wish they were in Indy bands.

I don't think they even look trendy anymore; definitely heading towards tacky. Maybe suitable for a costume party so it suppose it would work for Prom.

They are crap really but cheap and ideal to wear when they really likely to get dirty and/or damaged. You would not be happy to wear anything better. Also take into account that your body is still growing so it is not worth investing in anything too special.

I dont see why it's such a terrible idea at all. It will be cheap and probably the slim-fit cut they're looking for. If they grow out of it or ruin it, it's not going to break the bank.Originally Posted by cioni2k
Pretty much. Nothing wrong with that sort of thing for teenagers anyways, and a million times better than most people who'll show up in rentals.

There are several BB 1818 suits for under $200 in B&S. For me that is all that needs to be said.

I was thinking of buying the tux from topman because I'm a really small guy. Small enough that anything slim fit I've ever tried on looks regular on me.
Stylistically, I don't see anything trendy about it. Black, 2 button, "satin" peak lapel. All for $300. No, it's not for prom. I'm 24, only work off of internships, and it's prime time for weddings. Anyone have an opinion?

I'd say most of the 1818 line are pretty classic designs that will age well and still look fresh now. A TM suit is basically useless after the age of 21. Edit: The slim tux looks pretty good stylistically, lapels a little narrow. As said though, its a matter of quality and if you rather invest in something higher quality.
