Create double vents for ventless sport coat?

Just curious whether this is possible. I have a ventless Barneys navy sport coat and I'm wondering whether a tailor could create double vents. It would appear to be simply a matter of opening the side seams and finishing the open edges. Has anyone else ever tried this? Thanks.

Actually it is possible. I had this done the other day to two of my jackets. It will all depend on whether there is sufficient fabric to do it with, which is something you'll need to ask your tailor.

Most likely there won't be enough fabric, at least when we talk about RTW stuff. But in some rare cases it might be possible.

I'd be REALLY interested to look at some pictures of what your tailor did.

I don't think there is any doubt in SF that is is possible, but mostly can't be done, because of the lack of spare cloth in the vent area.

Ive done it, however, it has to be something that has lots of extra fabric and it is not nearly as easy as you might think.
It took like 6 hours to do and involved more than just opening a couple of seams, there is lining to contend with (which usually there is not an excess of), that adjusting all the other seams so that you do not have vents that look like they should not be there.
In short, its just not worth it.

Btw assuming that it is, in fact possible, I feel like an idiot because I passed up a solid navy Oxxford that I spotted in an Off Saks 5th in Fort Lauderdale (Sawgrass) for under $1k because it was ventless....arghhh....

Somebody please post a pic of a "fixed" jacket so that we can all be the wiser. Thanks!
