The overshirt fits you very well. Personally I am a bit constricted though, as I could never dream of matching a shirt from 1890 with jeans from 1955. Something totally incorrect in a way. But that's just me and my neurosis.

^^Sounds like your neurosis will lead you directly to the "costume department"

It actually looks better worn than I imagined.

On another note, I just got some 44s. Great, both denim and fit.

Which year are they from? Some of the older 44s had some insanely cool pockets, compared to some of the more recent editions.

LOL, I'm sure I have a bag of neuroses, but strangely that isn't one of them. I don't really want to look like a guy from the 1890s - just like I found his shirt in a trunk somewhere.

I totally get that idea, but I have a thing about somewhat "historically correct".

Well, you shouldn't ever listen to me.

Called up Levis flagship in San Francisco and the guy said that LVC is discontinued.... so where are you guys getting these?

Also, how do these compare to other repros such as Flat Head, Samurai, Lee (I think it's called EuroGold?), ect?

He's wrong. It was discontinued about a year ago (and only in the US), but it's back (under new management). They probably just don't carry it, and never got the memo.

Wow, **** that guy. Had me actually super worried, although I didn't cry, because it would have made my APCs get wet and the combs have set yet
wink.gif
So, where can I see LVC in person? I live in Philly, but go up to NYC every month or so.

You didn't hit Google before almost concluding that LVC had folded?

Anyways, LVC isn't the best repro line - at all. Especially compared to a lot of the Japanese brands. But as it has been discussed here before, the prices are rather reasonable and you get to wear the red tab, which holds a lot of connotations for a lot of people.

Qualitywise, I think, you can compare it to the Edwin made Lees. Although the Lees might also be slightly better. Although left hand twill is quite different to right hand twill.

But still, LVC is better than APC. But then again, what isn't?

Could you go into the details of left hand twill I have Googled it, but can not completely grasp it. Please explain this to the noob.

Hmmm. A matter of opinion.

The best Warehouse is better made, Mr Freedom is probably whackier. But the best LVC - the 200 repros, the cotton duck, unusual items of the kind the Japanese rarely produce, maybe even the plain vanilla 1955 501 - take a lot of beating for the price.
I love the Edwin Lees, but those are a repro with little connection to the original. A pair of LVC 1955 use denim made on the on the same looms, with the same cotton from the same sources as they used back in the day. The downside is that they're sewn on a contract basis by a non-Levi's factory in the US, made to a price with certain compromises. HOwever much I like Lees, they are simply consumer items - the 55 have the vibe of the real thing. I don't think there's any comparison at all.

I admit I"m probably biased in favour of the US article, because I hear so much BS about Japanese jeans, from how they're made on "old LEvi's looms" to how Zimbabwe cotton is "long staple."

Whatever, this is a subjective argument. Wear the jeans and decide for yourself. And post photos.

Mr T, you are spot on, except you didn't mention that the 505 is made of Kaihara denim and you avoided the subject of Turkish made LVC. The Edwin Lees have very little connection apparently and Lee appears to have a schizophrenic array of lines and sublines. The Edwin made Lees that I have seen have all been very well sewn and generally well made.

Do you by any chance know why the 505 isn't made on an American made sanforized denim fabric?

And aren't Cone producing a left hand twill that could be used on the Lees?

I prefer US stuff made too and I am not too fond of the overly authentic Japanese repros - not saying that I dislike it, as that would be a deadly sin and untrue.

Dom: If you have no idea what the connotations are, then your internet connection, in the cave you live in, must be very recent.

Re the Kaihara, they do seem to be the specialists in Sanforized denim - it's not something that Cone seem to be good at. And, incidentally, the 201 fabric was developed with Kurabo, altho LVC have recently swtiched from Kurabo to Cone for the cotton duck. I, too, wish LVC produced everything in the US (and that they'd kept Valencia st).

I actually really, relaly like the Euro Lees, for the price - that's Kaihara fabric, and it wears wonderfully, in some way exactly like the originals (altho these vary widely). And I love my Edwin Lees, and SDA, too. But I guess what I'm trying to say is the LVC have a wonderfuly diverse range, and they dont' always get credit for that - while many Japanese manufacturers are content to turn out endless 50s repros, impeccably crafted, but rather predictable. I guess that's what the market wants, for in my book the most interesting Japanese itmes include the WH Duck Digger range, or the Heller's Cafe collabs, and they don't seem to sell in huge numbers.
