Random fashion thoughts

the economist is sooo boring. so are the financial times. ive never read foreign affairs but im sure it sucks. also bad:

new yorker
new york review of books

these two reinforce my perception of new yorkers as some of the most pretentious people in the universe.

the reason magazines are doing poorly is that they are BORING. who the heck reads anymore, its just not worth it when you can

1. watch the NOVA
2. listen to the audiobook
3. listen to the podcast

i get all my "reading" done through audio books, have "read" pretty much every major novel of the last 200 or so years while driving around town

errr. no. Le monde diplomatic/diplomatic world is a serious int. affairs mag (with a leftist slant), you've got it mixed up with something else. Foreign affairs has like 1-2 good articles per issue but yeah, it's a worthy read if you're interested.
Is it primarily a foreign language publication? I don't think I've ever come across an article originally published in Diplomatic World, and it's not indexed in any digital libraries of academic journals like JSTOR. edit: Ohhh, Le Monde Diplomatic, never even thought of the English translation of it. Just did a Google search, there's another magazine called "Diplomatic World" that is a completely different publication that I must have been thinking of. Blame my lack of French

I like the Economist from reading their articles on-line (I've never subscribed), but frequently their articles don't seem overly in depth and an annoying tendency towards presenting only a single point of view. But it is probably the perfect reading material when stuck on a plane with no Internet.
These are common criticisms of the Economist (that often go hand in hand with periodicals in general), along with the fact that authorship of the articles is somewhat obfuscated to present them as objective fact rather than a persuasive article. I really like it as summation of what's happening, it's great as a digest, but if you're genuinely interested in a subject, there are much better places to go for more in-depth, quality articles.

These are common criticisms of the Economist (that often go hand in hand with periodicals in general), along with the fact that authorship of the articles is somewhat obfuscated to present them as objective fact rather than a persuasive article. I really like it as summation of what's happening, it's great as a digest, but if you're genuinely interested in a subject, there are much better places to go for more in-depth, quality articles.

It's a french publication, the best way to see it is to classify DW as a newspaper for people into int affairs.

Yes, this is the exact problem I was alluding to. Every time I try to debate someone (like my co-worker) whom gets 90% of his information from the Economist I am always shocked how accepting they are of the information presented there, unaware of alternative points of view. Invariably the discussion then degrades into an attack on my information sources being of questionable origin, yet their famous magazine is always assumed to be trustworthy. Never mind that one of my sources might be a well known economist at major university-- they will usually try to claim "well, that's only one man's opinion". One thing for sure, the older generation tends to be more trusting of traditional print media. The younger generations, less so.

NOVA and podcasts? WTF?! I find it difficult to do any meaningful thinking when watching TV or listening to radio, regardless of how it's presented. These sources you list may be interesting, but they're largely entertainment.

Audio books are a poor imitation of the written word.

I like to read conservative literary journals such as The New Criterion.

got my jil sander suit from Gilt, fits perfectly... only they didn't ship the pants, and don't have any.

Not directly tied to fashion, but it seems like everyone has a blog/considers themselves a blogger. I'm not opposed to the concept so much (I maintain a blog myself), but more so the shoddy writing, poor grammar, and lousy sentence structure that characterizes quite a few blogs I've seen. It's especially grating to see a well-designed blog with abysmal copy.
Most of the blogs I follow are in other languages lol, not going to get pissy about grammar with them

Any breast specialists care to input on that cup size there? My girlfriend was talking about disappearing for a little and returning with some G-cups, she said she is tired of her E's, but I think she can pull off what's going on there, as-is. May need some tan and glitter lotion.

What's the word on an "orphaned" suit jacket? I recently bought a Jil Sander suit from the recent Gilt sale, they sent me a blazer with... no pants. They've offered to let me keep the blazer at a very, very good price, but there's no point in me doing so if I can't use it in a semi-conservative office environment (Japanese prefectural government office). This is my first job where I need to dress appropriately for work, so I'm a bit clueless.

The jacket has very faint pinstripes, which leads me to believe this may be somewhat difficult, but could I pair this with black/dark charcoal gray pants? Here I am with a pair of dark gray pants, ignore the fact that the jacket hasn't been tailored and the shirt/pants are a little messy, more interested in the combination.
