Years ago in Georgetown, d.c. I saw a man with a lime green outsole. Anyone have experience, suggestions, etc? Aside from a cobbler being able to do it, I've got to source leather, match it my sartorial personality and decided on the longevity of the outsole. The color would quickly fade or blemish etc??

It looks good on me, and was only $40. The one in store was busted, so they're shipping a new one to me. I figured it's hard to get a hat like this for anything cheaper and I didn't want to pay a lot.

I really like this hat, but it's over my price limit:

Honestly, the J.Crew one you got is much nicer. The BB one looks too costumey.

+1. If you're under 35, go with the JCrew one.

over the years I've bought a couple of hats and I'd say I wear them pretty rarely TBH. like 3-5 times/year or something. It's a fun piece but maybe I'm just too self-conscious when I wear mine.

Sine hats aren't an everyday item for most men these days you do have to be somewhat confident in it to pull one off. The Jcrew one is nice looking, but the wide brims are a lot better with sumer straws, they're better at keeping the sun off. But the Jcrew one should work just fine. Also, you can get a much better price on a panama of that quality then Brooks is giving ya. This guy posts over at the Fedora Lounge and has a very good reputation: http://www.panamabob.com/

Thanks for all the input! The BB one actually looked really good on me, without looking too costume-y, but I think I'll be able to wear the JCrew one more. When I do opt for a better hat, I'll keep that store in mind. Thanks for the suggestion.

Questions about what people like when ordering from modern tailor...

What is the best Modern Tailor collar option to get a standard wide collar?

Collar - stiff or regular?

Fit - slim fit or regular?

Non-iron any good?

Pocket or no?

Thanks!

It's really up to you! I always opt for no pocket, unless I'm buying an OCBD (oxford cloth button down). It looks better imo. I have two shirts with the stiff collar and it's good. I don't like flimsy collars. Get the slim fit if you like shirts to fit you well. If you like shirts to be a bit baggy, get the regular fit. I have no experience with non-iron but I just ordered one recently.

White bucks are the quintessential summer shoes. But I think tretorns (or something of that styling), anything suede (not dark) and flip flops

are also standard fare.

Absolutely. And even dark colors would work IMO, if they suit your taste.

I was considering picking up some dark brown suede chukkas, but I wasn't sure how well they'd mingle with summery outfits. This is good news.

2 questions:

1. Charcoal suit, black captoes; what color socks? (interview/business setting)

2. Where can I find a crisp white pocket square to be worn with poplin shirts? All I can find are linen pocket squares. Or are they all supposed to be linen?
