^^ Commendable photographic technique:
  • Background: You use a simple background that does not distract from the boots (i.e., someone's oriental rug)

  • Distance: You close in right on the principal subject the boot. We get in close to see what we came for. That last shot of the leather surface and speed lace, did you need a macro lens or extender tubes for that?

  • Angle: The point of vew is mostly horizontal or close to it. Not looking down at the shoe like the viewer is wearing them on his own feet This zooms us in too.

  • Lighting: Soft and even. No harsh shadows or highlights.

Please, start a new thread on the technique you used, what equipment you used, and how you used it.

Thanks everyone for your kind comments. The boots are made on special order for the Cheaney Factory shop in Rushden - and I believe it's the manager of the shop who spec'd the design. That's why it has a number instead of a name - the FS in FS029 means Factory Shop. They aren't seconds, but I presume they are made to a budget. The boots are very popular and they get a new batch made when they run out. If you haven't been, it's worth a trip.

I'll have a think about how I can describe my camera skills. It comprises of a decent DSLR, 60mm macro lens, studio lights, Capture NX2 and Photoshop. It takes a while, but I like the finished result.

Another purchase in progress for next week...

Such nice photographs, thank you for that! I've been looking for this exact style and wasn't sure of a more affordable brand to go for. I may have to hit london on the weekend

+1 to all those +1s.

These seem like the perfect country boots and I can't help but wonder if, with sufficient interest on SF, that Cheaney factory would be able to introduce the FS029 as a forum special for around the price range of the same vicinity as what you paid, with the option of international mailing.

I don't see why not, since there MTO order minimum is (only) 12 pairs. Add the fact that this style is already something they produce for their Factory Store so they already have pattern which could avoid the usual setup cost. Don't know how shipping would work though, i.e. if Cheaney or the FS would be willing to mail each pair individually.
