It is very strange... I always thought that the circus is a part of your culture. Anyway, that you know so much about clowns, has convinced me of it definitively. Right?

Nice to see you posting in the thread again. The photo angle and your stance combine to frighten me.

Thank you. There is a break...just look up the trouser crease lines. Just the merest shiver.

voxsatoria:

"SHIVERING HEIGHTS" - OR LOWER?

I have noticed lately that you have posted several times wearing trousers with an actual, allmost break! - and that several members have commented on this.

So far I have not participated in this discussion, but have duly noticed your remarks/philosophy about The Ivy League background, tradition and quotes about a slight shiver etc.

To live up to my accused pretentiousness, let me start by quoting from my own earlier introductory post:

"I actually believe that the singular most ridiculous look a man can obtain, is when the trousers are too short, like what the Americans used to favor - you could be Gary Grant and still look like an idiot!"

Just to make my position clear - (but I hasten to add, that I certainly dont think you look anything like an "idiot")

We all have our ideas about how we want our bespoke garments, and I certainly have my own little idiosyncrasies such as my "signature" gauntles, deep detachable collars etc, so I in no way want to "streamline" everybodys look; individuality by all means - thats partly what bespoke is about!

I would like to bring an entirely different element into this discussion:

My main point being that this question should not be one of tradition, nor fashion, or style, or anybodys idiosyncrasies - but solely one of aestetics!

This is not like wheather your preference is 2 or 3 buttons, patch pockets SB or DB etc, but solely aestetics in an almost graphic design way.

Vox, when I look at your "shivering "shots; and cover up your lover leg/feet, the whole outfit changes, not only the trousers, but my perception of the coat and coat/trouser interaction as well, and the overall look is so much nicer. I'm actually amazed everytime I make this little experiment.

It started, of course when I first saw a shot of you wearing trousers a bit longer than normal, and wondered why the overall look was dramatically different, that is, better!

You have the background, the interest, the culture, the knowledge and the means to be what I believe you are; one of modern Americas best dressed gentlemen - and your guy is of of the worlds 10 top artisans! (I wonder what he thinks about this?) Nobody can take that away from you, and thats certainly not my intension - my 2 pennies worth is just to see if I could bring you to consider this from an aestetic viewpoint!

One other, smaller point about trousers: I believe you made a remark somewhere that trousers always gets longer, or words to that extent. If one uses braces, guaranteeing that the top stays at the same position, trousers will on the contrary get shorter when wrinkeled by use. The best example beeing linen trousers, which should actually be made a bit longer than normal, due to the excessive wrinkling when worn, agree?

I realize that this suggestion/advice is totally unsolicited and allthough I make my living getting payed for such consultancy services, I shall refrain from billing you:)

I'm furthermore fully aware of, that I, by posting this, has placed myself on the Voxsartorial alter, and shal be beheaded and quartered by the masters sharp sarcastic penmanship, and the remains scattered to be devoured by you deciples:

Dear Butler, I respect and appreciate your aesthetic perspective...I think that most would share it.

My way of enjoying what you suggest is to see it well done on others. As for me, it is an element of what's personal. As you aware, such personal choices can be democratically less popular.

I encourage you to post more because have an interesting mix of youth and maturity in the clothes that you choose, and quite a lot of panache.

on trouser balance...he'll have some shots of my braced trousers from today for fodder in his upcoming column. I hope that his thoughts start some interesting discussions.

Haha, the stance was normal, but the angle seems to be accentuating a certain area. That's what happens when you have to set the camera leaning on a book inside of a bookcase.

I went through a phase where I hated wearing suits, only kept one hanging in my office for meetings, and otherwise wore casual clothes, but lately I'm back to dressing (or at least trying to) nicely.

Do you just photoshop a different suit onto this picture everyday? I bet you're really naked in that photo, yeah I knew it!

It was a lark. The shirt is well put together, but the collar is an absolute disaster. Not bad for the money, though, and maybe if you worked with them, the collar could be improved.

Maybe two or three minutes to swap out one set of buttons for another.

It's really convenient that Will orders his ties in the length that I like best.
