This thread has probably been done at some point, but I couldn't find anything in the search.

I will be in New York City this weekend and would like to do some shopping, what are your suggestions? I am new around here but I've found that I am really diggin Tom Ford's stuff.

Are there any places that just have some great deals that I should know about?

Thanks for the help!

J. Press - their New York store is great. Pretty expensive but really amazing old time New England clothing.

Uniqlo - this store is big in Asia but only just starting to make an appearance elsewhere. They have one store in the US in NYC (SoHo). Higher quality staples than the GAP and H&M with more selection but at similar prices.

Penguin - they've got a store in New York (Midtown). I really like the stuff this brand puts out...kind of retro-60s cool. Their polos and sweaters are great.

I say Paul Stuart uptown, Barney's obviously, the Tom Ford store is amazing to see just for the design alone. I would also say Leffot for shoes in the West Village. Opening Ceremony in Soho has some cool things sometimes. I'm a Lord Willy's fan in Soho also the Paul Smith in Soho is a great store. I would also say Freeman's Sporting Goods on the Lower East Side for something you can only really find in NYC.

Stop in to Paul Stuart and check out the Phineas Cole collection in person, you won't be disappointed. Leffot is also a great place to check out as they carry hard to find names like Aubercy, Pierre Corthay, and Gaziano & Girling. Obviously, you must go to Bergdorf Goodman--best store in the country.

Am I the only one who thinks that the men's floor at Bloomingdale's is a rat maze? I can barely find my way out of it half the time.

You are not the only one! I work across the street from Bloomies and the downstairs is a mess!

I dissent. J.Press is a shadow of their former self. The quality of the merchandise is not high
and unless it has changed in the past year, they have forgotten how to make a true
natural shoulder.

A true NY institution is the haberdasher H.Herzfeld on 57th Street

http://www.hherzfeld.com/

Very high quality understated acutely good taste. Even if it's above
your pay grade, worth a visit.

Uniqlo, Bloomingdales, JCrew Men's Shop, and A.P.C. in Soho. Go uptown to Saks, Barneys, Bloomingdales, and the Ralph Lauren Mansion. If you want bargains and can brave the crowds, go to Century 21 (near Wall St.).

When I shop in NYC, I start with the Alden store on Madison (344, I think) then work my way to BB at 346, J.Crew, J.Press then on 5th to Sacks, BG, then back to Madison for Barney's and RL.

That's funny. I actually had to ask how to get out of the store this past winter. The setup of that store is so confusing. They have mezzanines upon mezzanines. I really think there are like 6 different 'levels' on 2 actual floors in that store.
