Still ugly. Also, it would leave me without a phone, or with a temporary phone for a long time until that thing came out stateside and was picked up by a carrier.

I guess that's always an option. One thing I REALLY don't like about the N1 is that they're trying to eff us by double charging an ETF fee (Google has one as well as T-Mo) unless that's changed. Obviously not an issue if you return it in the period but it's a huge pile to me.

I'm still trying to decide what to get. Very disappointed the HD2 is not on AT&T as I don't want to switch to T-Mo (cause of free in-network calling). If the N1 had as large of a screen I wouldn't care but I'm really set on the 4.3" HD2 vs the 3.7" N1. *sigh*

So... anybody got a N1 on AT&amp;T? Is it true you get the exact same plan as you would with an iphone, even if you buy the N1 at full price? At least T-mo gives you a break on their plan if you're willing to drop 500 bucks for the damned phone yourself.

I'm pretty sure you don't have to tell them what phone you are using.

I think his point is that carriers claim that contracts are to subsidize the cost of the phones which they give to you for less money. Since you're buying the N1 at full price, AT&T should offer you a cheaper rate.

The N1 on T-Mobile is available for a subsidized, cheaper price on contract.

I don't really see the point of a having a phone off of contract if you know you'll be sticking with the carrier though. It's not like you can take the T-Mo N1 and use it on AT&T or vice versa.

Edit: I just checked and the iPhone plan is one of the cheapest ones they offer. It's like $60 a month. I thought the iPhone plan was supposed to be expensive? My 450min/unlim/unlim plan is like $80 ($100 something incl taxes and fees) I pay extra to avoid the iPhone and I guess I'll continue to do so.

What was the point of buying an iPhone that didn't have 3g capability to begin with? Millions of people did that. I dunno. You are asking stupid questions now. I just pointed out that you could indeed do what you said you couldn't.

What are opinions on waiting for Sprint to unroll ( they say in late June ) their HTC EVO?

The HTC EVO is basically the same phone that T-mobile is selling as the HTC HD2 with a few differences.

The very important difference between an EVO and the T-mobile HTC HD2 is that the EVO will be an Android OS phone versus Windows Mobile 6.5 OS with the T-mobile HTC HD2. Otherwise they are basically the same phone.

Other differences are that the EVO will be on the new Sprint 4G WIMAX system versus the HTC HD2 on T-mobiles 3G network.

And minor differences like an 8 megapixel camera versus a 5 a few other little things. In theory the EVO sounds wonderful.

I've currently have a G1 on T-mobile and it's grown old on me. It's OK but barely OK. My contract ends this month.

Sprint has not officially announced the subsidized price of the EVO either. And I'm not excited about a CDMA phone.

I think I'm going to pass on the Nexus 1 because of the Google sales model and the initial complaint reports.

So, I can wait for June and switch to the HTC EVO with a new carrier and network. I can just stick with the G1 for a while more and see what T-mobile comes up with as their next and best Android phone. I'm pretty sure I'm going to hold off on the Nexus because of issues and the Google direct sale and hold off from the HTC HD2 because of Windows Mobile 6.5.

Has anyone had experience with Sprint as a cell phone carrier and what would you do in my situation about a new handset?

Exactly. The "portable Nexus" plan of Google would be perfect... if the phones were actually portable. No 3G makes a phone about as useful as a brick to me. This is an incredibly annoying time to be shopping for phones as there are really no reasonable Android carrier-subsidized phones but there will be a half dozen within 4 months. Even the iPhone is right at the end of its product life. And it makes no economic sense to buy an unsubsidized phone. I definitely can't wait until July for the EVO, especially since these dates are usually full of **** and frequently get pushed back. The Verizon Nexus was supposed to be out already. The Verizon HTC Incredible is allegedly arriving in less than 3 weeks. It's supposedly very comparable to the Nexus One with some minor improvements and a slightly uglier form. I am pinning my hopes on that at present, although with my luck Verizon will pull their usual **** and cripple the phone somehow.

If you have ever read my previous posts when discussing phones and carriers you will see that I am well aware that they will work just not with 3G or whatever faster data connections.

People bought the iPhone cause they really wanted the iPhone and it wasn't available on T-Mobile. However, if you have the exact same phone on the different carriers I think it'd be pretty dumb to switch to another carrier and "suffer" through downgrading your connection and dealing with Edge speeds.
