If that's not what he meant, that's what he should have meant.

I do prefer a shorter toe for casual wear though.

I got these very cheap from E-bay, 92 pounds including new cedar shoe trees and shipping to Sweden.

They are Alfred Sargent Dulwich, from the classic collection (rubber heel and not fully leather lined). I can't feel the difference in suede quality between these and the AS Thin Red Line suede brogues though, it looks to be exactly the same:
