Question re: 4 in hand tie with tuxedo

I hope those who know better set me straight, but didn't Neville Chamberlain sport a similar look, particularly with a wing collar? Probably not a tuxedo, though, and if I was fishing for comparisons to British statesmen I would certainly prefer Churchill to Chamberlain, but still - if the look was that bad, wouldn't they have stoned him in parliament?

There was a small contingent who kept wearing wing collars with ordinary 3-piece lounge suits until the 30s.

And I have no idea if Chamberlain ever got stoned in Parliament, or anywhere else for that matter. Churchill's tendencies in that direction are pretty well documented.

I am not a fan of a tux with a 4-in-hand tie, looks to cheesy to me. That said, if you are going to where one, definitely go with a notch lapel. These ties do not work with a peak lapel.

Chamberlain gets an appallingly unfair rap. He was Prime Minister when Britain declared war on Germany, after all and played a valuable role in the first year of the war. Among his achievements were a key role in organizing the Special Operations Executive. He was largely stalling for time while Britain re-armed at the time of the infamous Munich agreement.

I like that the OP eventually limited the acceptable pool of responders down to those living in NY or London. Because clearly those of us in flyover country barely have the occasion to wear shoes, let alone "creative black tie".
