2005 Potensac or 2006 La Dame Malescot, same price?

A really good Bas Medoc chateau in a really good year or the second wine from the inconsistent Marguax in an average year, but from a third growth chateau.

I went with with La Dame Malescot because I wanted to drink it soonish. And the label was prettier.

Just opened the last bottle of Franciscan Cab to cheer me up as the BBQ gets started in the pouring rain. Root vegetables, sweet potatoes and T Bones. The Cab has been open since noon and is now taking no prisoners. It's telling me to bring on those big, juicy bitches.

Castello Romitorio Morellino di Scansano 2007
This particular wine drinks rather well young. Morellino is a Sangiovese based wine from a village in the south of Tuscany called Scansano. Drinks particularly well young.

Ruffino Modus 2006. This is a really nice Tuscan blend mostly Sangiovese with some cabernet and merlot. Give it a good decant.

Pio Cesare Barbera D'alba. Barbera D'alba is a fantastic food wine, and the varietal is one of the most planted in Italy. This particular Barbera comes from Piedmont (the same region where white truffles come from) and Pio Cesare is a very well respected producer who puts out some great Barbaresco and Barolo. This also got 92 points from Wine Spectator.

Campaccio Terrabianca 2004
A blend of 70% Sangiovese and 30% Merlot. 2004 was a great vintage in Italy. 91 points Antonio Galloni.

Vinchio-Vaglio Serra Barbaresco 2003

These are all great suggestions. I need to do a pretty thorough search, but some that stick out are:

Monsanto Chianti Classico Riserva. Usually quite robust, but this one has a touch of time on it. Would order myself.

Albino Barbaresco. Great producer.

Corino Barolo. Their 2005 was absolutely sensational. Small production, I'd pick one up at this price.

Smaller Ornellaia, but this will be a step up from the Le Volte.

I still need to look through more. Stay tuned. Also, 2005 Gaja if you're feeling flush.

eff, was hoping to find their barbera to keep the price low, but this from Ratti is also superb.

One of the biggest names in Piedmon, Aldo Conterno.

I can't believe I overlooked Le Serre and a couple other of your suggestions. In all fairness, when I was doing it this morning my head was still a little muddy from last nights festivities.

Potensac is a much better wine, and 2005 is a much better vintage.

For dinner:

IMG_0671.jpg

Thinking of cracking a Claypool in a while, the wine we had with Kyle.

Just spoke with the owner of the restaurant I'll be having my B-day dinner at next Saturday. So the wines I'm bringing are:

05 Pur Sang
07 Merry Edwards
79 PX

Can't wait to see the menu. Chef said he'll have it finalized by Wednesday.
