I do notice that even competitive bodybuilders in the 60's and 70's (including Arnold and especially Franco) didn't do alot of the stuff that contemporary bodybuilders do - on stage, 70s BBs still kept their armpit, forearm, and leg hair, their bikinis were not as skimpy, and of course the tanning was not the same.

Most (average) people who lift do so for aesthetic reasons, rather than strength.

I used to see dudes like that walking around the Castro, no joke theres some big ass dudes there. Except for the dude in the middle this physique is pretty bad for clothes IMO.
