Recs for inexpensive dress socks?

What is your washing/drying routine for your socks, and what are your socks made of? Cotton? Wool? Some blend or another? Before we can really get into a conversation about what socks to buy, we need to figure out if it's your care routine, and not your sock purchases, that are at issue.

In my experience, stay away from socks with any amount of synthetic material (nylon, rayon, etc.) unless you want stinky feet. Unlike cotton and wool, synthetics do not have sufficient wicking properties. This promotes bacterial growth which leads to smelly feet. Most cheap brand socks (and even expensive ones) have nylon in them. So pay attention to the tags.
Viccel has been mentioned around the forum. They have 100% cotton in two weights and also wool/silk blend socks. They offer 20% off for styleforum members. I have not personally tried them but am considering it. Anyone with personal experience want to chime in?

I've bought from Viccel and was very happy with service and quality of socks. The Summer ones are pretty thin (see Viccel Thread for more details) especially if you are used to "cotton rich" mall socks (like I was).

I've found the stuff at Nordstrom Rack to be hit-or-miss - on a bad day, maybe not all that much better than what you'd find at Marshalls or TJMaxx.
Can't go wrong with Gold Toe, though once you try some Pantherellas or something like that, you won't want to go back.
