globetrotter's sartorical morrocan adventure

so, I land in casablanca and my suitcase doesnt make it. frankly, this was a big mistake of mine, I really try not to check bags, but I've been on the road for 3 weeks, including a few days in northern europe, a few in central america, and time spent in africa, so I needed a lot of different clothing. anyway, I land wearing sweats, with no clothes.

so, this morning, I have somebody lend me a driver and I am cruising around looking for an open store. they take me to zara, but it was closed and really not what I was looking for. I was hoping to find a small store, a tailor who sold some clothes type of thing, I figured anything I bought would only get worn today and I didn't want to blow too much on it.

and, I have a meeting at 10 am, that is what I am doing in Casablanca.

so we find a store that is open at about 9:20 - I run in, point to a pair of pants and to myself and say, over and over again "for me, get me this for me". the guy finally understands and finds a pair that fits. then I do the same with a shirt.

whole thing takes about 5 minutes. then we swing by a tailor who shortens both for about 5 bucks, in less than 5 minutes. then we go back to the hotel. I meet my regional manager who lends me a pair of shoes that, honest to god, are my size by stretch 3 inches past my toes in a point with a slight rise. aslo a tie. have to say the tie wasn't bad.

so that is how I spent my day until my bag was found.
life can be strange.

you sound resourceful, that's good skill to have.

Others would have floundered, skulking like little girls and yelling at airline reps who frankly couldn't help you anyway.

I await corniche to weigh in. He has a lot of knowledge about Morrocans.

When I came to this forum, I thought most of the members belonged as me to the high burgueoise, descendant of the best europeans and semi aristocratic caucasians knew by their sofisfication and education. I failed in my thoughts. Then the forum is plenty of racist jokes about this guy, fault of respect aboout me and my family in my villa assault attemp by some muslims etc. This looks just as the mtv , non educated people with expensive clothes. Lumpen proletarians plenty of envy. With some great exceptions. My two cents.

Spare clothes in your carry-on is usually a good idea on international business travels. I have this monster laptop bag that I usually stuff with a few extras when I do check in my bags. I'm surprised you got a tie though -- usually, I've had the worst luck with ties when I've been sans clothes. Also, doesn't CMN have a few stores within the airport itself?
