Do the type of trees matter? I feel as though the ones with the thin wooden heel strecth the shoes oddly and the ones with the full heel fit the shoe much better? Any thoughts on this or am I seeing things?

I wasnt the biggest monkstrap fan... but your shoe style is very close to mine, and the RLPL Narvells make me regret not getting a monkstrap sooner.

Seems like monks are something that come along as you progress in the shoe world, I'm sure it won't be long...

As to G&G: Tony Gaziano & Dean Girling have both told me, the length of their lasts and the toe box room on each last are all the same.

Slewfoot, for example, the TG73 last is just as long as the MH71. Since I own multiple shoes in each of the aforementioned lasts, I can relay that the size of their toe boxes are all the same...none is roomier. Comfortness can also vary based on your specific foot shape and the model of shoe chosen. Oxford balmoral boots at the bottom of comfort level, while side gussetted lazyman shoes are the best that G&G make for my feet.

Interesting. Regardless of the actual measurements, for whatever reasons the TG73 seems to appear more elongated than the MH71 to my eye. I wish I owned some of each to compare, but alas.
