I'm 5'10 and 135 lbs, and my suit size is 36r. If I want to be able to do some layer, like a shirt and hoodie, should I order 36 or size down?

the sleeve (and body) length may be too short for you.

In it you mention that the cut was most slim in WWII, and got looser throughout the years. I'm planning to order a coat from Vintage Trends, and trying to choose from a few, ranging from 1960s to 70s. I currently have a Korean war-era one that I'm replacing -- any guess how they'll compare? And would the cut have changed from the 60s to the 70s? Thanks for any insight.

To anyone interested, I got a "mil-spec" version from Sterlingwear. It's nice, and the wool is denser and smoother than the regular version, but in my opinion, the kersey wool of the vintage coats is nicer. I'm returning it to Sterlingwear.

The cut won't be that much different from the 60s to the 70s. The biggest difference is in the WWII models compared to the 70s models. But then the cut is only about 1" tighter in the earlier models.

Glad you found the article helpful. It's the result of several years of research.

I just checked it today and the quality of the wool is just horrible. Get a sterlingwear or go with the Polo Academy Pea coat

Looks good except the arms are a tad long. Can you give us your body specs and what size of pea coat did you order? Thanks!

Don't let the arms bother you that much - it's not too long. Good choice on getting the classic (4 button). Makes you look taller.

How does the quilted nylon lining feel?

Thanks! The quilted lining feels great, no complaints about this jacket at all other than the movement restriction. Won't be throwing any footballs around with this thing on.

Glad you like it.

Btw, I just found at the Sterlingwear's website that the Classic is using a 32oz wool. Is it heavy?

It doesn't feel that heavy but it is extremely warm. I am surprised as to how little I need to layer to keep warm in the NYC weather.

The other night, I took my dog out at 1 am in 20-25 degree weather. I was wearing just a tshirt, jcrew henley and the sterlingwear (authentic). Warmth.

Nah I don't feel much weight compared to other jackets i've worn. Although, this is the first peacoat i've put on. I wouldn't say the weight is much of a factor.

On a side note, i do recommend the classic oppose to the other sterlingwear fits if you're trying to go for a slim fit by sizing down. Since the classic is cut more straight you don't get that hourglass look like some people get while sizing down with the authentic (because the authentic slightly flares out near the waist).

Actually, my only complaint about my peacoat (and all other sterlingwear) is that the sleeve width is kind of big for my skinny arms =\\. Has anyone here got the sleeve widths tailored so they fit a bit slimmer?
