3.5. At least the most current crop is . I'll check Barney's.

That's only 3.15 inches. That's they way they look in the illustrations.

FWIW, I'm 6'2" and a 44R. I can wear 3.5" and 3.75". I prefer 3.75".

Quite a few things were on sale last year, but I can't remember if everything was reduced, sorry.

I found some Drake ties on eBay and it seems like the seller is legit,is there any way to tell if a tie is Ancient Madder?There are some textures that resemble Ancient Madder Silk but I can't tell if it is,any tie experts? Sam Hober?

I don't know if the silk is ancient madder or not, but the seller is entirely genuine. I've bought a couple of Corneliani suits and several ties (by Drake's, Gieves and Hawkes, and Charvet) from him previously. His communication and service were excellent and the shipping charges were very reasonable.

The tie looks very nice although I cannot tell if it has a madder finish from the photo and unless the seller tells you that it is a madder it probably is not. The price seems OK go for it if you like the tie and its length and width.

As for ancient madder, with the exception of some craft people working from home you will rarely see natural madder dye on silk. Although there are likely to be lots of Turkish rugs still made with natural madder.

English Madder silk is typically made using an artificial dye for perhaps 50+ years.

Also the newer madder finish is a different style compared to what was available say 10+ years ago. The finish is more colorfast which is nice.

I contacted the seller but knew he wouldn't be able to tell the difference. Sent him some info about Madder silk,he said that it is most likely not Madder silk. I bought a few madders from Drakes and loving them. I've been eyeing some of the madders to come up on your website, unfortunately,there is nothing I like at the moment so I hope there will be something new soon.
I was able to find some madders that I like at Drakes and O'Connell's for now.

O'Connells has many really nice classic ties.

Ancient does not mean anything in a practical sense other than a reference to how long madder has been used as a dye.

Foulard's are usually a twill or plain weave often with a printed pattern. They could have a mix of silk or cotton or could be and usually are pure silk.


An ancient madder foulard will likely be a twill weave. we currently use a "50 OZ" twill madder and I think Drakes uses a 36OZ or 40 OZ. The OZ refers to the number of ounces over a given length perhaps 10 yards.

So a madder silk will likely be a madder foulard but could also be another weave.
