I am paying $2400 in car payments that I don't have to make, but that I am making anyways to get them to stop harassing me and to be done with them. They have been calling 16 times a day for the last week, bothering my father, and leaving threatening messages on my voicemail. I have 4 months to pay them off - but their computer erroneously reports that I am 3 months "late" on my payment. They are too inept to correct their mistake, or even LOOK at my account before calling me and demanding I pay them or be hit with a debt charge-off and lose my title for a year. They had already "filed paperwork" for this process.

I am paying $180 in insurance in this six week period.

I am paying $80 for vehicle tabs in this period.

I am paying $100 for my phone, which I need for work, but which is not covered by my work.

Plus I have to pay for gas, and food.

So yeah, I'm about negative $480 in income for over the course of a month. I had a couple hundred bucks in Christmas money, and I took out a $500 payday loan, which will cost me $575 two weeks after I'm done paying the rest of this **** off. I already sold everything I own that's worth any appreciable money.

I'm not feeling sorry for myself or anything, but claiming that because I have a computer means that I'm not poor at the moment is kind of asinine.

You are, though I like you, patently unqualified to make the judgment you did with no other information.

$380 a week works out to about $7k more a year than I was making when I was married, paying my way through school and my wife was a full time student. I didn't owe car loans though at the time. While I don't know all your information, your definition of **** poor and mine are different. **** poor to me is people in Haiti eating mud cakes and drinking contaminated water. Anyway, I don't want to nor need to get into a pissing contest and hope everyone on this fora has a permanent roof over their head and eats daily.

My dad grew up **** poor, the single-parent post-Korean War kind of poor. I spent the first few years of my life WIC poor, before being raised in a privileged middle-class setting. I am now casually poor, with just enough money where I can pretend that I don't have to worry about money every now and then.

So essentially, what you are saying is that nobody in America is poor, because even homeless people in the US don't eat mud and drink contaminated water. If only the absolute most destitute and impoverished people on the face of planet earth fall into your category of "poor" maybe your definition of "poor" needs to change. We have a lot of poverty here in the U.S. that doesn't necessarily include drinking out of gutters or eating dirt for nutrition. I understand you have you opinion, it just seems like kind of a ****** one. I understand that compared to Haitians, I am not poor. Also compared to many other people I am not poor. Compared to the Dutch average, I am not tall. Compared to Bill Gates, none of you are wealthy. Compared to the biggest/best, smallest/least whatever, none of us are anything but average. BUT that is a bullshit comparison, and I think you know that. Especially when compared to most of the people on this board, I am decidedly not well off. I am working 40 hours a week for negative income for the next six weeks. I am also pretty tall. I may struggle to eat daily for a little while, but it's probably good for me. I have friends who are cooking me food on occasion. I have to balance going out to someone's house for free dinner, and the gas that it's going to take to get there. After the next rough two months, I will be considerably better off. It's just a rough patch that I know there's an end to. Something I have to deal with so that I can move on with my life and stop worrying about. I don't want anyone to feel too sorry for me or anything, I'm already dreaming of a vacation that I'll be able to afford once I'm done paying everything off. But as for right now, I can't afford groceries. So I qualify.

Jack In the Box or Taco Bell? I gotta know if coming down there will be worth it... To be honest, Wine country is a bit out of my price range. I was thinking of Tokyo.

I'm **** poor.

I've been smoking only two or three Cubans a week lately, and I've been drinking Tanqueray in lieu of Hendrick's.

You know how sales tax often ends with a fraction of a percent like 7.5%. So if you buy one $1 item you pay $1.07 but if you buy two it comes to $2.15. You pay $0.01 more compared with making two separate purchases. My wife used to think about stuff like that during her first year of grad school in Tokyo. I've had it pretty good in comparison..

Hung out with a lot of unsavory people.

I sleep on a hand-me-down futon on the floor. And even though I don't really LOOK like a "Westerner" I guess I pretty much am. I'm not obsessed with an elevated bed. Though eventually I'll probably end up getting one. Just for appearances sake.

You mention your poverty often. Just curious but do you see things getting better for you at all? By the way, that's how I get the stuff I sell here.

I ate two out of four frozen beef ribs that I found in the freezer today. Unfortunately that's pretty much all there was in there. I have some four year old frozen french onion soup. Prob. not good anymore.

The good news is, those beef ribs turned out nice. And according to the price tag, they only cost me $3 for the package. I think that's pretty good.
