Why does RE not make gold frames? Do you mean what they make now, or what they would have made as a period piece contemporary with the film period? I don't even think they were around during the period that show depicts, not according to their site.

So it would have to be Bosch and Lomb or American Optical. Both were suppliers of sunglasses to the military. But I think, though I could be wrong, that BL made the rounder aviators and AO those square aviators and AO was supplying more around the Korean War/Vietnam era. So, based on the design and era they would probably be AO.

Sorry if I'm a little late to this party, but RE does make gold frames. You can choose when you're buying. Here's the sizing info, etc. There was a blurb in people magazine (I was skimming through the fiancee's) about Don's sunglasses and they mentioned that they were RE.

A lot of people have suggested the MT Aviatrix as an aviator alternative, so i decided to get some on zappos so i could return em if i wanted (sunglass hut near me didnt have em) ... they are the size 60 model (56 vs 60), and while they are a bit big for my more narrow face... i actually kind of like them oversized like this. Are they meant to fit smaller/medium or larger(as most aviators seem t)? I might keep these but am wondering if i should keep searching and somehow check out the size 56 as well.

American Optical does the classic aviator glasses like Don Draper is wearing as well. I think you can get gold frames. I have a set of matte silver genuine issue AO glasses and they're great. They come in a cool blue plastic case too.

HI guys,
I need a little help if thats possible.
I bought some tom ford nicolettes for my wife but im a bit unsure oln the authenticity of them. I purchased them from ausebay, the seller also has an online shop front.
Im no expert but heres my initial thoughts on them.

1. The actual build quality, weight and feel seem to be be of a high standard. All parts feel strong and free working. Compared to my pradas bought from a real shop they have the same sortve feel about them if you know what i mean?)
2. all the logos etc appear to be in the right places.
3. the tom ford logo inside the case seems a little dodgy is its not 100% consistent
3. the end of the legs where it has been cut is very rough
4. the tom ford logo on the lens is also not 100% consistency

Overall they are either a) factory seconds or b) fakes

Can you guys please shed some light on my situation?

cheers

I got a question about sizing AO Aviators. I got no idea if I should get them in 52 or 55, and since I need them with prescription, I cannot buy both and return one. Any suggestions?

Hi all, my first post and was wondering if you could help me.

I've just lost a pair of Prada sunglasses i'm very fond of, and i would like to replace them very much, would love your assistance with either:
-the model number or
-the name of the style, I've always called them wayfarer inspired(but they are much thicker)

thanks in advance, I've attached a photo (I'm on the right), i bought them in I think 2008, maybe very early 09.

(pardon my unshaveness i was backpacking)

anyone know of stockists for the martin margiela uni lens shades in mustard - not the thin ones from last year - these are more substantial. Seen them at Printemps for 400euros but looking for online stockists.

Yeah, both of you are right. I was looking at the question from a historical accuracy pont of view. I don't know too much about mad men but do know that the guy plays a Korean War vet role. Meaning that if the show's stylists cared about historical accuracy they would most likely have him wearing AO. Style-wise though, RE and AO are perfectly interchangeable - and so they went with RE.

Personally, I like the RE intruder over both of the aviators.
