Those handheld electronic football games that were just LED blips. /
Why I remember when (now I really sound like my father)
football "games" were a large table-sized electric board that vibrated ...
causing the players (each about an inch tall) to move down the field.
Trouble was, you couldn't guarantee which way they'd move.
Now before that, we actually had to go outside and play that game.
When the centerfolds in Playboy still had ample public hair. /
I don't remember public hair ...
but I do remember when ample pubic hair was all Playboy could show ... if that.
Silver trading at $50 an ounce and every fly-by-night coin dealer putting an ad in the paper enticing you to sell your pre-1965 silver coins. /
I remember this too ...
and everyone knowing that a certain Ft. Worth family was behind the rise in price.
After that ... Bunker went on everyone's C-list.

We didn't have no red and blue paint ...
cause those damn Yankees had done taken everything away from us after The War!*
Waiting in long lines for gas, and when regular gas meant it had lead in it. /
How about gas for 19 cents a gallon?
Candy bar for a nickel?
First Class postage only 4 cents?
Pull tabs on beer and soda cans (if you stepped on one of them, they'd really slice your foot open.) /
And before that ... if you wanted a beer -- or soda -- one actually had to use an opener.
When Ayds (pronounced like AIDS) was a diet candy. /
Diet Candy? Why in the 50s the diet aide of choice was amphetamine salts.
That's how all those social x-rays stayed so thin.

As I mentioned before I was a Hot Wheels guy rather than Matchbox. I had the case the looked like a tire that you opened up to put all your cars in.
I also had the track that had the little machine that the car would go through that had spinning rubber wheels inside it that would shoot it down the track. I think they were called "Superchargers" or something.
Also, who else had baseball cards that would today be worth four figures, but for the fact that you clothes-pinned them to the spokes of your bicycle to make your bike (sort of) sound like a motorcycle.
Which reminds me...only the old guys on here probably remember what clothes pins were actually used for.

about my first 10 years in journalism i was a sportswriter and we had to call in game stories to a rewrite desk (never, ever, have a problem with writer's block having had to dictate 900 words on a payphone in a 7-11 parking lot in canyon texas with a 35-mph wind blowing a 28-degree temps ... file before you freeze!).
Then we were all so jealous when the writers from the big papers (Dallas!) started showing up with their portable computers -- they were the size of a big suitcase and they had two cups where you attached the telephone.
hell, kids, i'm so old I edited a Prodigy board ... there was this thing called "dial-up". ..
