A friend recently had to return one because the stem (the part the handlebars connect to that has a joint in the middle of it on this bike) broke and they couldn't fix or replace it. Just fyi, ymmv.

Haha, Dave Mirra is the man. His entry level bikes should be just fine for your kid. Motivate him to get into it, BMX has made me the man I am today

Serious man. I attribute a lot of who I am to my BMX days. It helped me not be as fat as I would have been otherwise, it provided me with a distraction to the point where I never even cared about drugs until my senior year of high school, and subsequently because of that I performed really well in HS. It was a natural high, for real.

It also helped me a lot with my confidence. Back in the day I was overweight and I had some self-perception issues, but knowing that I was decent on my BMX bike is what helped me not dwell on these insecurities and helped me get through those tough adolescent times.

Lastly, Freestyle BMX is just that, FREEDOM! No coach hounding you down, just you and your buddies riding a curb, ramp, or dirt jumps. I love that you are in control of your own progression and because of that, every advancement you make can be soley attributed to your own hard work. In addition, there are so many styles to riding that everyone can bring something unique to the table.

And I made a lot of good friends BMXing.

1st ride with my new bike yesterday... did 20 miles of mixed road/trail. loved the feel of the mojo sl, specially on the steep climbs.

I think I may be breaking down my wife's opposition to me buying a new bike. Very slowly. And just a little. But we'll see what happens.

What's a cheap fixie? I'm thinking the Mercier Kilo TT but I want to see some other options at that price point.

windsor the hour or the bmx company makes a cheap FG they're called SE they have the draft it's usually like a little over 200 bucks bikesdirect.com or bikeisland.com if you want to build one.

You'd be better off buying something of higher quality used on Craigslist, it'll be better in the long run. I've only heard negative opinions regarding SE Drafts and most other cheap fixies, usually the only positives being price and a frame of reasonable quality (on most).

Here is a bit of a rant on cheap fixies.
