Ordered a bottle of Gigondas, Domaine de gour du chaule "˜04 Rhone tonight at dinner. Big smoky flavor that needed about 30 mins to open up. Afterwards opened a bottle of 08 La Garrigue Cuvee Romaine. This is not as good as last years, but is still a pretty good QPR for 17 a bottle.

Last night drank some Trois Pistoles. I forgot how good these are. Strong in alcohol without overpowering the flavors.

Nice! In the summertime, I garnish them with wild violets.

Poli is The Man when it comes to grappa in my world. Have favorites? Sarpa, Sarpa Reserve, Sassaicaia, and Po'Traminer are my current favorites. (May have messed up some spellings, Italian does not comport well with me, linguistically).

Are you a Scot? This is excellent -- I make do with the new Plymouth, which I enjoy greatly, but which I'm sure does not compare with the homemade article. Do you pick the sloes, or are they available for sale? ~ H

Lifted this one from a local restaurant:
muddle 4 or 5 seedless grapes in a short glass
plenty of ice cubes to top up the glass
1 1/2 ounce top shelf vodka
Elderflower water to fill the glass (http://www.bottle-green.co.uk/Products/Cordials)

Ridiculously good, but it really needs to be good quality vodka. The Elderflower water has a clean taste and won't mask the flavor of a cheap vodka.

Glenfiddich 18 year old. Very nice, fruity break from the Islay I usually tend towards in Scotch.
