Thinking about getting a new down jacket... nothing super puffy like Canada Goose. Want something lighter weight but still warm. Have gone with the usual North Face in the past but I am really sick of their fit, so looking at other brands. Some of those mentioned in the title:
Patagonia
Outdoor Research
Marmot
Columbia

Anyone have experience with any of these brands down jackets? I have seen a few Marmot in person and wasnt that impressed. A fmaily member has a jacket from OR and it was really nice, great weight and warmth, but the sleeves were really long for some reason/.

OR is great stuff and the sleeves are really long because it's probably intended as a belay jacket (lots of arm movement and standing around in the cold).

Try Arc'teryx, Norrona, Helly Hansen or Cloudveil for slimmer fitting stuff. Also backcountry.com and rei.com will have a fair number of choices. If you didn't like the fit and finish of Marmot, I doubt you find much from Columbia that will meet your desires.

Check out Nau's offerings, too. I own the blazing jacket, which I bought from Epaulet and it's really great.

mountain equipiment coop (http://www.mec.ca) has some really great down jackets. But they are a coop like rei and based in canada so I don't think they ship outside canada.

OR is good technical stuff. That's what I had when I used to do dumb things like climb cliffs in the Winter. Now I'm smarter. I climb things when its warm.

I'm a big fan of Patagonia. The fit is athletic and functional. Any Patagonia product I have owned has lasted a long time.
