well, i have been going as much as i can to the 24 hr fitness. trying to do 1 hour cardio every time i go if i could. some days im on a roll and can do it straight without stopping and some days i get dead tired after 20 minutes. my diet is certainly not helping, for instance today i had for lunch a salmon grilled sandwich and side of pasta (from my work's cafe) and a personal pepperoni pizza.
last night since my wife is sick we had in n out and i had a double double and a cheeseburger. stuff like that. it is on a regular basis, so hard for me to eat less, im beginning to think im just built /hardwired that way.

That's a lot.

yeah i know. but the gym is very close by, a hop and skip over , and i like the convenience of the 24 hours. so i think i will do 'alot' for the time being until i get my weight down to a more of a maintenance level.

Have you been sticking to this frequency?

Being a *****, even a small time *****, means that Diet can undo all the exercise you might do. Once you get skinny you could eat that **** and maybe keep it off for while. But once you get skinny you won't want to eat like that all the time anyhow. Look around http://fitnessblackbook.com/ see where else it might take you. I was 40lbs heavier last Thanksgiving and it took about 5 months to knock it off but I was possessed and really watched my diet as well as biked a lot and lifted a bit.
As far as eating excuses go (wife sick, busy at work, etc..) there will always be a reason to stuff your face with **** unless you make yourself a person who doesn't stuff there face with **** for any reason! For a while anyway, until you get UNfat. No metabolism BS either, I am well into my 30's and had been chunky for most of my life. Good luck.

qft thanks. yeah ive been on both extremes like a rollercoaster all my life: very heavy /fat or very skinny.
i think you are keen on the pyschological aspect i have to get control over. looking back, it has always been : holidays/winter -> get fat.. work/employed desk job - > get fat.
married? -> get fat.
single> ->get skinny. summer -? get skinny unemployed?> skinny.
i'll have to rewire my thinking that it dont matter what situation it is , i have to control my eating habit

I think this has alot to do with it. Around where we live, it's hard finding any decent healthy restaurants for lunch. I just drove through two cities trying to find a decent healthy looking place for lunch.

Sho:

If you train intelligently, with a purpose in mind (a race, to use a previous example), and regulate your intensity and duration of your training sessions, then you are covered from that aspect.

As for your diet: no amount of training will overcome a bad diet. The bottom line is: you've got to stock the house with reasonably healthy foods, and avoid going out whenever possible. I bring my lunch to work, largely because then I exert portion control and know what I'm getting.

I eat throughout the day so I never get all that hungry and it's healthy enough without going all steamed chicken-broccoli-tofu-cardboard-wicker-bitter tears. I still drink beer and bourbon and have a muffin (cranberry/pecan/white chocolate) here and there, but overall, I'm getting lean again. It's a matter of incremental trade-offs, rather than hard-and-fast iron-will discipline.

Don't listen to Thomas. When he says he brings his lunch to work he really means that he brings his flask of Bourbon with him to work and is so drunk by lunchtime that he is passed out at his desk and misses lunch.

I lost 22 lbs in three weeks on South Beach; phase 1 is very restrictive and an absolute ***** the first few days but beyond that it's fine. The tenets are very simple: no sugar and no carbs. Most everything else is fair game.
