Thanks for sharing this! Just remember to take lots of photos so you can show her when she's older just how cool she was when she was young.
Can't wait to see the finished project.
I will. And thank you.
Very cool, this makes me want to go find the nicest $10 thrift blazer I can and tear it apart just to see what goes on inside.
I used to do that with electronics as a kid (phones, VCRs, TVs) but I'm sure it never even occurs to a lot of people that there is literally more to their clothing than meets the eye.
Make sure it's full canvas"”that will give you some extra fabric.

We thought it would be handy to put pockets on the coat. And then I remembered these, from the Italian tailor Valentino Ricci:
I made some prints of the image to determine the right size, and this looked about right:
Fabric cut:
Lining cut and pinned on:
Stitched through, except for a small piece in the bottom:
Then I, as a layman, thought something had gone wrong: I thought the wrong side of the fabric had been used (see the first picture of the pictures above). But no: it was the right side. The pocket will be turned inside out after the stitching (hence the small piece in the bottom that hasn't been stitched through). Then the fabric is on the right side and the pocket looks neatly finished.
Turning in process:
Et voilà :
Other side:
On the coat:
The pockets pinned on the coat, prepared for the machine...
