Work At Home? What Do You Wear?

Hi,

My question is if you work at home - what do you wear?

I have worked at home successfully for a number of years and dressed in a casual fashion - mostly chinos and button down shirts. But I wonder if dressing in a more business like fashion would foster additional focus while helping to create a greater separation of work and home time.

In any case, what are your thoughts about what to wear when working at home? What do you wear? Why?

I'm an academic in the humanities/social sciences, so I work a lot from home (and from coffee shops). Depending on the mood of the day, extreme sloppiness or a degree of formality can aid concentration. But maybe that's just one of my undiagnosed psychiatric conditions speaking.

when I work at home, the wardrobe tends to be pretty sloppy, with the focus being on comfort more than anything. That would change if I had a video conference or something like that, but otherwise its sloppy. I think the main issue is work space, if you have a den or home office space in your home that you generally only use when working, its far easier to get things done and the mood is set that "this is worktime now" more so than what you're wearing. Yes, I know there are those on here who were born in brogues, but I can't see wearing a suit around your house when you know you'll be spending the entire day at home working.

i wear one pair of rlpl cashmere thong

always t-shirt and shorts. some days when i'm lazy i just wear a towel after i get out of the shower. on the really lazy days (which is about half of them) i lay in bed in my underwear with my laptop

dont know where you can get one now, but mine runs a bit tight. so if you want it i will be selling it preowned soon still great condition. lots of life left.

when i first started trading at a prop office we just wore jeans, tshirts/polos and sneakers. we weren't very successful cause it didn't feel like work. we just came, dicked around, ate lunch, traded a bit, and played guitar hero all day. then i got tired of sucking and started wearing slacks and dress shirts to help make work seem more like 'work' (and they all thought it was stupid). i was able to focus more and then i became the most successful trader there by a mile. then i left them to work from home. so i completely understand what you're saying and i think you should try it for a few months. see if your trading results improve or if you can better separate work from home. luckily i'm now the opposite of the problem you might have. my mind is off the markets and the results from that day the moment the clock hits 4. and that's when i usually dress up to go out

I work from home quite a bit, but am also out and about each day as well. Therefore I'm usually wearing a buttoned shirt from Truzzi, Mastai Ferretti or Brioni - all year round. Fall/Winter I layer with a myriad of different sweaters or an odd jacket and wear flannels or cords. I actually wear jeans quite a bit as well. Never sneakers - always a pair of loafers or oxfords. People around town know what I do, so I'm a walking advertisement most of the time!

In the evening and mornings, I wear a robe, but otherwise, if I am working at home, I wear pretty much what I wear every day - some sort of knit, fleece, or long sleeve tee or henley, jeans, one of a couple of dozen belts, and "designer" sneakers, mostly Common Projects these days, but sometimes Margielas. Actually, when I work from home, I often become dissatisfied with some aspect or another of my outfit (putting together a casual outfit is actually much more nuanced than putting together something formal, ime) and change.

I really feel that I work better when I dress up correctly. a few days a week I go to the gym and don't change out of sweats afterwards and spend the day working in sweats.

I love the fact that I can work from home half-time... yet I do miss the opportunity to dress up nicely and wear nice things.

When working from home it's all about ease and comfort... jammies... tshirt/shorts... bath robe... it depends on the season, but it's never fancy.

It's rare for me to work at home, but when I do, it's usually some form of denim, chinos or cords & button-down shirt, and almost always a pair of loafers or wingtips. If I do have to bolt out of here, I toss on a sport jacket.
