Is anyone else a big fan of Bill Simmons?

Has there ever been a more repetitive schtick of sportswriting than what Bill Simmons does? Have we figured this out yet?

he is occasionally funny, but being such an IRL ***** kind of kills him for me. plus, the shtick gets even worse than dennis miller at his worst. analogous comedy has its limits.

God, I hate him. He is so annoying. And unlike most other annoying sportswriters (Rick Reilly comes to mind) they don't stop him from writing on... and on... and on... for pages and pages and pages. Awful. How much of a power trip did they put him on? His freaking WIFE writes a side-column within his column.

Sometimes insightful and interesting (when he's defending AI or other players from elderly white people, when he was repping for the Wire, moments like that). There aren't many big-time sportswriters who call leagues/owners/other writers out on their bullshit.

Far too many in-jokes and repetitions, though. It takes a certain kind of brilliance to write the same Vegas column three times a year for ten years and get paid for it, though.

edit: Don't like him, he's the Internet version of the moronic talking heads ESPN puts on TV.

He will be at Professor Thom's tonight in NYC. I am going down to razz him about how much his new book sucks.

He was much more enjoyable back when Boston teams sucked.
