Organic (or low chemical content) Dandruff Shampoo?

It's caused by a fungus, hence most dandruff shampoos have some anti-fungal active ingredient. Most will repress it so that it never goes away, but doesn't flake, so you have to keep using it. Using a harsh method for even a short time will eventually kill it. If regular dandruff shampoos did this, then they would never have any repeat customers.
They sell sulfur soap bars online. If you get one and shampoo every night, barely rinsing it out so as to leave a film on your scalp while you sleep, then rinse in the morning, and keep that up for a week, you will cure it. Just know that you will have to wash your pillowcases multiple times and stand 3 feet away from those you talk to for the duration of that week. Sulfur is also a great treatment for acne.

How will I explain this to my girlfriend? Gone are the days I could hide for a week.
I've had terrible luck with shampoos. Currently I use a bar from the health store that says "Shampoo & Conditioner" on it. It's plain white. I've given up on almost every product which is why I use that. I found that vinegar keeps the itch away for 3 or so days. Maybe I don't use it enough to kill it. I heard dandruff is yeast, but from others, that it is a fungus.
My goal is to end this problem and never have to follow-up on it.

Neutragena makes a dandruff shampoo that my derm doc highly recommends I use every winter. It's very mild/neutral and is intended more for your scalp than your hair. It almost doesn't lather (unless I apply it several times).
But it's great for cleaning my scalp so I don't get any greasy skin build-up that can lead to certain flavors of dandruff.
What's with organic shampoo? You're not tasting it or ingesting its natural nutrients so who cares how it's made or what the ingredients are?

That's interesting. I didn't know a fungus was among the common differential diagnoses for dandruff. I get dandruff in my eyebrows - it all started in college and persisted up to now whenever I get stressed-out. I use a mild cortisone cream, since it's so close to my eyes. I wonder if such a treatment (IF, and that's a big if, the cause is NOT fungal) could be used for the scalp? Reggs, did a doctor take a scraping or skin sample to test if it's a fungus?

You can use topical steroids on the scalp. However, probably any treatment regimen requires an antifungal, of which Nizoral 2% might be the strongest and unfortunately quite drying. It doesn't seem to have a smell. By the way, what evidence is there that zinc itself has any smell?
