Double leather sole versus single

I like the reduced flex of a double sole, because I'm prone to pain in the metatarsal joint from excessive flexing. It's actually what first drew me to SF, when I googled for companies that offer double-oak soles. They do take a while to break in though, and until the "hinge" develops there tends to be more heel slippage (which may cause blisters if the shoes are snug in the heel).

I don't know if this has been discussed yet, but double soled shoes, being by nature more rigid, are beneficial for people who suffer from arthritis in their big toe joint.

If the uppers are too thin or flexible on a double-soled shoe then the uppers might start to hinge instead of the sole. i have this a bit some some double-soled Barkers, but not on other double soled shoes with stiffer uppers. so depends on the shoe i suppose.

I've ordered boots with the HAF sole and have noticed that it will also affect the character of the shoe aside from being a thicker sole. I buy all of my EGs on the 808 last as it gives a very sleek appearance. I have a pair of newmarket boots with the HAF sole and it mad the boot almost look gunboatish. I guess with the additional sole the outsole juts out even further. So be careful, the double sole does affect the look in addition to the thickness of the sole.

Don't mean to be sarcastic. at 5 ft 6, any help is welcomed.

Vass cannot make Goyser welt shoes with single sole at the waist.

I didn't know that. It's a little strange because they asked me to confirm I really wanted a simple double sole on that pair because the other pairs in my order were double tapering to single at the waist. I did confirm that's what I wanted.

I guess I'll bite. The only thing that affects your height is the heel, and having a double sole doesn't mean a higher heel. I'm having trouble believing this isn't obvious, but try lifting your toes off the ground while keeping your heels stationary. Do you feel taller? If the answer is "yes", than no one here can help you.

For what it's worth, maybe having a double soul would make you taller
