If youre buying from J.Crew to canada you should change the delivery method to Canada Post. They dont charge you the duties or taxes right away and theres a good chance you wont have to pay them at all. Even if they do it will still be slightly cheaper.Originally Posted by mmm
I've tried this a few times and I escaped duties once but the order was only a $20 shirt. The other 2 times were $100 orders and I got hit with duties both times. With my shipping experiences, the only way you might escape duties is if it's around $30 and the customs guy just doesn't feel like filling out the forms. If it's a higher value, they will always get you. With that aside, mmm is right. Then you hear there's a 20% discount so you say **** I'll clean the boots up, return them and buy them again and save $50. Unless they appear untouched, J Crew now has to sell the boots for a loss at their outlet store. I've returned shoes before at J Crew and all they do is verify there is two shoes in the box, they don't inspect them vigorously to see if or how much they've been used. But somewhere along the way someone determines if they go back on retail shelves or the outlet. J Crew is simply defending themselves from customers that play the system. Sears used to have a liberal return policy and they never even looked over items returned. I knew a guy that used to buy kitchen appliances such as blenders & toasters, take the item out and return the box filled with rocks and Sears would always give him a refund. I also know a guy who buys Nordstrom clothes, wears the hell out of them, re-attaches the tag and returns them a year later for a refund so retailers have responded by tightening up their policies or making collabs temporarily disappear. Now suppose you just bought a secret wash shirt for $65, you'll save $13 at 20% off, but now you have to pay $10.50 for shipping.
