How to remedy harsh leather smell for bag?

I just got a bag and it strongly smells of new leather. If it smelled like rich mahogany, I'd probably be okay with it. However it seems to smell like rotten hotdogs. I've aired it out for a few days now but the smell is still quite strong. What can I do?

I read somewhere that good leather should smell good.

Perhaps using some leather creams, which have their own not unpleasant scents, might cut the rotten smell? Otherwise burn some incense or something inside the bag (did that to get the funk smell out of a trunk).

Who knows, it may smell good to other people. What particular kinds of leather creams? Plus I can't burn incense inside the bag since it is cashmere lined. Thanks for your help.

You know, Saphir Renovateur, or maybe some beeswax-based polish...

Cashmere-lined? Is this one of those Cucinelli things?

Btw, yes it is a Cucinelli piece.

Pour some dry instant coffee into all the compartments. Place bag in a plastic bag for a week.
Remove from plastic bag, then empty coffee grounds. Vaccuum out. It worked for me with a leather jacket only in my case I left the jacket in the bag for 3 months off-season. You could alternatively try rubbing Lexol with a cloth on the leather if you don't want to do the coffee idea.

Turn the bag inside out, wipe it down with a wet towel and air it for a day. Spray it with febreze and then put a couple of sneaker ball and seal the bag for 24 hours.

While many people enjoy the smell of leather, it can be overwhelming at times. The hide is treated with chemicals and colorings that can produce a strong scent. The smell of leather can be removed with washing, but the oils will need to be replaced to keep the leather piece from drying out.
