Absolutely not.

Get either the original from Alden, or the version that they make for Brooks.

Hmmm...what was you reason for creating this thread, then?

There are several cordovan, calf, and reverse calf colors possible with the Alden loafers.

if so, i did not see and made the assumption this was only in the burgundy.

it is a mild fascination based entirely on the polo website.

The color 8 cordovan is the best color to have. The Alden 666 in suede is my second favorite.

I agree, and think it also is the most versatile. Great for when taking one pair of shoes on a trip; the color is formal enough for business but also fine for casual wear.

I am no fan of recent Allen Edmonds models but I do have a pair of black Saratogas,
the Grayson's predecessor, that are over 20 years old. They make the term "gunboat" a
gross understatement. See a pair (not mine)

Am I crazy or do I see a pronounced absense of 360 degree welt on those Saratogas?

If so, I might forgive you.

If I understand correctly what you mean by 360 degree welt, you
are right. The AEs in the photo and my closet have a less pronounced
welt. Otherwise, relative to the Aldens they almost represent an instance
of footwear acromegaly.

Here are the Brooks (by Alden) shell tassels.

I have two pairs of Saratogas, one shell, one calf. I think they're great shoes, certainly superior to the current Grayson. However, since I got my shell Alden tassels I find those are my go-tos. If you're going to go out and buy one pair get the Alden (or Brooks) shell.
