I'm not getting rid of my 4 inch ties!

Went through my ties today and decided that because of my gut, I am keeping my 4 inchers.
The ones that 'look' like 4 inches are going, but the others are staying.
With my jacket closed no one will know, and with it opened or off,
my gut will make the 4 inchers look like 3.75 inchers anyway. No skinny ties for me thanks.
What about the rest of you larger-bellied men out there?

You know, I started this thread to get a consensus which would be valuable to others,
and it's going to end up in DT.

If the standard is 3.25'' and a 2.5'' tie is kosher, a 4'' tie must be.

I say wear two 4 inch ties at once and give the public a healthy 8 inches.

I wouldn't get rid of a tie just because widths have changed. If it's something that you love, and truly think will age well, set it aside until 4" once again looks right. I have a couple of old Charvet ties that have gone from correct, to too narrow, back to correct.

Who's standard is that? 3.25" is too skinny on me. 3.75" is ideal. I am 6'2" and 44R.

This is a good approach. You can use this on an analog watch that doesn't work at all...it will be precisely accurate twice daily.

3.75 inches is the American standard. Often Italian ties can be found in stores around 4 inches wide.

I still have 3.75- 4.0 in. ties from the late 70s early 80s.
When ties got narrower in the mid 80s I bought a few
3.5 in ties but hardly ever wore them. At the time I
had no gut. By the late 90s I stocked up on wider
neckwear. Even now, relative to my age group,
I am trimmer than average. I just like wide ties.

I'm sure 4" ties are going back in style soon. Just look at the growing trend for wider lapels.
