Really? I think 3 patch is overrated.

I thought most here go for the 2 patch/welted breast for coats. I think the three patch looks more balanced, but that's just my bias. I don't recall seeing that many 3 patch here, at least relative to two patch.

The London lounge blue flannel with the triple plaid is an awesome flannel from Fox. It is in the queue amongst the unfunded liabilities. It is blue and different. Edmorel had a few pics in the WAYWRN thread wearing a coat which looked similar (not exact, but close) with his signature textured blue ties. The pattern is very versatile. Would make a next level BallzerSuit(TM). Could wear the coat with solid pants as a sports coat, could wear the suit and could wear the pants with a barbour type or short letterman type jacket.

Even a three piece would work.

With all due respect, that triple check flannel may be one of the ugliest cloths ever inflicted on suit wearing mankind. It is so awful, it really should be entered in an abysmal cloth contest where I have no doubt it will take first prize. If it were made up in a double breasted suit it would have the additional element of tragic comedy. The striped grey is alright and the brown PoW could be an interesting country suit.

If it has a stripe or in some rare cases a windowpane, then you are good to go. Otherwise, a solid navy flannel or, worse, a blue-grey flannel look too much like a blue collar uniform.

One of my favorite suits is a navy flannel with a bold windowpane.

But the notion that a solid navy flannel--much less a blue-gray--conjures (or has EVER conjured) "blue-collar" is non-sensical. To me, blue-gray (i.e. slate) is one of the rarest and most elegant suiting colors.

I like the texture of the woolen, hence my preference for flannel.

Well, I respect your particular style and you may make it work because you are a one of kind dresser. However, for most men, that fabric is a mistake. I understand you better than you know. I also wear fabrics I don't think most men should wear; I don't even want anyone else to wear them, they're my signature. They look good on me, they work for me but I never believed what is good for me, is good for everyone. However, I have a trained and objective eye, at least for most Americans and I can tell how most will react to an item. If you know how people will react to an item and you want that particular result, then go for it.

Its a herringbone that is tweed with the texture of the woolen but not the somewhat clumsy nature of flannel...I like flannel but not for sportcoats.

Nonsensical? It seems to me that not a few transportation services, janitors, maintenance crews, police departments, fire departments and sanitation departments wear solid navy or blue-grey uniforms. Probably, it would be better to state that you just dont like what I said than claim it's nonsensical. I would submit that blue grey is rare for suiting because it is associated with blue collar pursuits and not because it is especially precious.
