New manufacturing of Silk Plush Top Hats.

There is a wonderful hatter using silk plush to make men's silk top hats to the quality of the late 1800's. This is the top hat I am going to have made.

It will be perfect for work with full morning dress as I now work blocking, refurbishing, and selling men's hats in Northern California at Hat Guys.

I just thought I would let you guys know that you can now again have a silk plush top hat made for you after 40+ years.

Tibor, isn't silk shag different from silk plush, though?

I'm not paying four hundred and fifty quid for a hat. I could get a car for that.

They have them on ebay. I might see if I can find a tape measure that'll go all the way round this head of mine.

I think you are right. I sometimes hear it used as slang for plush. I will correct it to avoid confusion Thank you..
I have ordered one 1890's top hat from him. It is like getting to wear a masterpeice from the NY Metropolitan Museum of Art on your head.

For 590 pounds, you'd want to wear it a lot!

I enjoy wearing suits, but frankly, I would really struggle to dress formally enough to wear a top hat. To my mind, it would probably require a three-piece suit, shirt with detachable collar, fob watch and watch-chain and quite a bit else to really do justice to the hat.

Maybe if you were also wearing a very formal overcoat it could work, but with the outfit you describe, a homburg would be better. A top hat really demands a coat with tails.

Agree. I wear my Homburg with my dark suits and dark overcoats and it's plenty formal. A top hat would be a bit much.

I will confess there's little practical use for a top hat, although I'd love to have one. Like others, I find that a homburg satisfies all my formalish requirements (which are largely self-imposed, anyway).

Luckily I work blocking, steaming and selling hats, so full morning dress is encouraged at work. Although a simple dark suit and fedora is usually the norm.

Its certainly rare but I do. I have 1930's Hawkes morning coat coming as well to go with the top hat.

I think the best silk used to come from france. Didn't the last firm making it fold in the 50s.
Maybe RJman can weigh in on this.
