Does this ever happen to you when you wash your button-up shirts?

Not all of my button-up shirts do I have dry cleaned.

So when I wash them in the machine, it's more often than not that the points on the collars get curled up and are damn near impossible to iron out.

Any suggestions?

I was thinking of just letting them air dry in the future.

Put a damp rag over the collar and press the hell out of it. Works for me.

Correct. I think that's the problem - over drying.

Interesting...I'll give it a try.

What?

Never have I that problem.

Do you mean button-down shirts?

Exactly.

Sometimes I start in the middle but that's only for short sleeves.

Iron your shirts after the wash and then put them in the dryer, and if your shirts have the plastic slides in the collars to keep them straight take them out or they'll bend and will also give you the same problem.

I always assumed button-down just meant a shirt with buttons... then upon finding SF I began to get the impression it referred to shirts with button collars... now I am confused.

I only put my shirts in the dryer for 3-5 minutes. I take them out and hang them (on hangers) when they are still very wet/damp. I never have an issue with the collars.

I also never let my wife or my maid wash my shirts; I know that they'll dry the hell out of them.

What brand of shirt is this happening to?

Almost all of them that don't have a button collar.

I washed a Zegna shirt the other day and it curled the collar points. I'm pretty sure it's attributed to overdrying though. In the future, like you said, I'll dry them for just a few minutes then hang them out to dry.

Do you use collar stays? My shirts do the same thing sometimes but after I iron them and put in stays, the brass ones that usualy takes care of it.
