I would advise against it, particularly if they are pebble/scotch grain.

^ Brush the heck out of those suckers with a minimal amount of polish or none at all.

They will glow.

Ya they look pretty great now already, I have to admit. I was just curious about trying a mirror shine cuz I'm bored. I guess I'll just have to buy some cap toes. Darn

I don't mean to hijack this thread, but didn't want to start a new one on a simple question...

Is it appropriate to mirror shine brown shoes? I've typically only seen it done on black shoes.

have been to a shoemaker this week. he had a mirror shined pair of scotch grain shoes. it was a plain derby.

but try it on the longwings. imo and my experience, you cannot damage anything.

just my 2cents

A mirror shine is easy to achieve. Over at AAAC, the shoe thread often shows lots of glossy longwings. I prefer less gloss on my shoes, but a high gloss is possible.

If they're not grained, why not? Easily retified if you don't like the look.

They are grained black Kenmoors. I think I'll wait till I get a plain toe shoe to try the mirror.

What about brown shoes as up1bin above asked?

sure you can mirror shine brown shoes why not? I wouldn't mirror shine anything (deliberately). I prefer a luster over a shine especially on sotch grain.

ok i re-checked my shoes. I do have some pairs in brown I mirror shined, yea they look fine.
